#METRO EXODUS STEAM CANCELLED WHY MOVIE#
Let us know your thoughts on the cancelled Metro 2033 movie and more in the comments section below. The next installment of the video game franchise, Metro Exodus, is set to arrive on February 22nd of next year for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. With any luck, fans will see the film return under the writing of a producer willing to provide the best experience for viewers while maintaining a good relationship with the source material.
#METRO EXODUS STEAM CANCELLED WHY SERIES#
It’s a little sad to see that filmmakers were willing to scoop out so much of what makes the series as impressive as it is. Metro 2033 is a very distinctly Russian tale and that makes up a lot of the charm that the series holds for many readers as well as players of the video games series. They turned it into a very generic thing. They had to replace the Dark Ones with some kind of random beasts and as long as the beasts don’t look human, the entire story of xenophobia doesn’t work which was very important to me as a convinced internationalist. Unfortunately, just too much had to change in order to progress this project. With this setting, a lot of the factions such as Nazis, Communists, and even the Dark Ones just wouldn’t work. Glukhvosky goes on to explain that a lot of what makes the series was lost in the script from MGM, for example swapping the location of Moscow with Washington DC. We’ll see if the release of Metro Exodus can push the IP across a little bit the oceans and see how that works.” So currently we are speaking with a new set of producers about a possible adaptation but this is a very long and difficult process. The project with MGM optioning this book and developing a script had brought us to nothing and the rights reverted to me. The rights have since been reverted back to the author and according to Glukhovsky, there is still a little hope for the film and the search for a new set of producers has begun. Similar to the first game, the movie was set to follow Glukhovky’s first book, however it appears that the scriptwriter for the film planned to Americanise the film. Unfortunately, it seems that the movie has recently been cancelled thanks to some issues with the creative nature of the film. Back in 2012, MGM Studios acquired the rights to create a movie adaption of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s post-apocalyptic novel Metro 2033.
